Faith Sullivan, author of The Cape Ann series, has agreed to come to our meeting on October 8th. Faith remains enthusiastic about the craft of writing and loves to share this enthusiasm with fellow writers. Bring your questions and prepare to learn and laugh with this twin cities author.
From a StarTribune review (9/2015): “Sullivan never planned to become a writer. She graduated from Mankato Teachers College in 1956 with degrees in history and education and motored off to Cambridge, Minn., for her first teaching job — which she hated. Anything would be better than that, she thought, and she later took a job in an employment office. It was OK, but it was still nothing she loved.
Her college friend Dudley Riggs hired her to act in his Brave New Workshop, where she met Dan — then a music and drama critic for the Minneapolis Tribune, and a comedy writer.
She and Dan had three children and moved first to New York, then to Los Angeles, before eventually moving back to Minnesota. It was in California where Faith got an idea for a novel. “It plagued me,” she said. “But once I started writing, I thought, ‘Oh, my God. Why haven’t I been doing this all my life? This is what I really want to do.’ ”
We’ll meet tomorrow, July 9th, at 10:30 at the Waconia Library. Prompts are:
1. Go to a public place and observe a person. Write about him or her.
2. Write a phrase from your childhood that influences you today.

Our last meeting included discussion of poetry and its different styles so we thought we should do something with poetry this month: write a poem, bring a favorite poem, locate a copy of ‘Poetry for Dummies’, etc.
Or, if it appeals to you, here’s a writing prompt: ‘It was the sound that brought it back….’
