Coffee with Faith Sullivan, Oct. 8th, 10:30 a.m.

Enjoy coffee and scones with MN writer Faith Sullivan, tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 8th at 10:30 at the Waconia Library (magazine area). 

Also Frost and Steam has changed owners and is now Jaurs. But we have been assured that the back room will be available for us on Oct. 16th at 5:30. Hope to see you there.

Sept. 25th Meeting Reminder

Just a reminder that we’ll meet on Sunday at 5:30 at Frost and Steam coffee house in Waconia.
The prompts are:
1) Write a piece using the words magazine, pantry and telephone or
2) You are allowed to relive one day or experience from the time you were thirteen. What do you choose?                       You can do one or both.

Also two reminders:
1) The Loft Screenwriting Class is at 10:30 on Oct. 1st in the Maple Room at the City Hall next to the Waconia Library. Free but please register. Class is limited to 25.
2)  MN author Faith Sullivan will be doing a reading and writing discussion at our Oct. 8th Saturday meeting at the Waconia Library. 10:30-12 in the area behind the magazine section.

Save the Date for Faith Sullivan, Author Reading

Faith Sullivan, author of The Cape Ann series, has agreed to come to our meeting on October 8th. Faith remains enthusiastic about the craft of writing and loves to share this enthusiasm with fellow writers. Bring your questions and prepare to learn and laugh with this twin cities author.

From a StarTribune review (9/2015): “Sullivan never planned to become a writer. She graduated from Mankato Teachers College in 1956 with degrees in history and education and motored off to Cambridge, Minn., for her first teaching job — which she hated. Anything would be better than that, she thought, and she later took a job in an employment office. It was OK, but it was still nothing she loved.

Her college friend Dudley Riggs hired her to act in his Brave New Workshop, where she met Dan — then a music and drama critic for the Minneapolis Tribune, and a comedy writer.

She and Dan had three children and moved first to New York, then to Los Angeles, before eventually moving back to Minnesota. It was in California where Faith got an idea for a novel. “It plagued me,” she said. “But once I started writing, I thought, ‘Oh, my God. Why haven’t I been doing this all my life? This is what I really want to do.’ ”

Meeting Reminder, Sunday, April 17th

We’ll be meeting on Sunday, April 17th, at 3:30 at Frost and Steam in Waconia. Look for us in the back room with our writing, coffee and ice cream.

Our last meeting included discussion of poetry and its different styles so we thought we should do something with poetry this month: write a poem, bring a favorite poem, locate a copy of ‘Poetry for Dummies’, etc.
Or, if it appeals to you, here’s a writing prompt: ‘It was the sound that brought it back….’
