Our first November WWG Write-In is tonight!

In honor of the historically writerly month of November, Waconia Writers’ Group is providing some space and support for writers in Waconia, Carver County, and the greater Twin Cities metro!

WWG Write-Ins, Celebrating National Novel Writing Month

FIRST MEETING: Monday, November 6, 5:30-7:45 PM, Waconia Library, Meeting/Activity Room.

It’s once again time to take on the annual challenge of writing the equivalent of a novel’s worth of words in November. Also known as National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short), this is our group’s second annual observance of this month-long write-a-thon!

WWG members will be gathering every Monday evening in November to work on their writing projects, share resources/advice/camaraderie, and some of them might even immerse themselves in the challenge of writing 50,000 words in 30 days! 

Bring a project! Write! Enjoy the company of your writing peers. Come when you can, stay as long as you want. You don’t have to be participating in NaNoWriMo (or writing a novel) to join in on the fun!

WHAT TIME: 10:30am 

PROMPT: The start of something new!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • NOVEMBER WRITE-INS WITH WWG:
    • In honor of National Novel Writing Month (November 1-30), WWG will be hosting our second annual NaNoWriMo Write-In series!
    • Monday evenings at Waconia Library.
    • First write-in will be Monday, November 6, 5:30-7:45pm.

  • ACCC EVENT IN NOVEMBER:
    • You are invited to submit a poem, short story or musical composition using these word(s): Changing Minds, Spooky Spirits, Gifts, If Only, Call of the Wind, Distant Voyager.
    • We will gather Friday November 17th at 7pm at the Chaska Community Center Theater for a live performance of the results.
    • Please send your submission to Kelzer2025@gmail.com by November 12th.
    • Your submission should be under 5 minutes.
    • If any of the poems or short stories would like to have background music accompanying/interpreting their reading, let the organizers know as there will be musicians on hand that night who will review your piece before the event.

Hello writers! With respect to the Labor Day holiday weekend, WWG will not be meeting on the first Saturday of September (9/2). Our meeting is scheduled for the SECOND Saturday, September 9th. We’re also keeping the same prompt from August.

Writer Events this week!

Waconia Writers Group Write-In RESCHEDULED from today (Monday, June 19) to Tuesday, June 20, 5-7:45pm, at Waconia Library.

Our 3rd-Monday-of-the-month write-in is being rescheduled, due to the recent news that Waconia Library will be closed for Juneteenth! Just one day later, Tuesday, June 20th, starting at 5pm at Waconia Library. Come when you can, stay as long as you want, and enjoy the company of your fellow writers as we work on our craft!

ACCC Flash Memoir Reading, Wednesday, June 21, 6:30-8pm, at Chanhassen Library

The Literary Committee of the Arts Consortium of Carver County (ACCC) is sponsoring an evening of true-to-life storytelling we’re calling Memoir: Flash Me; a short recounting of one specific incident in the writer’s life, perhaps one that has impacted and possibly altered life’s journey. The event is set for Wednesday, June 21 in the Wilder Room at the Chanhassen Library, 6:30 – 8 p.m. There will be an opportunity for people to share some non-memoir pieces (poetry, short fiction, etc.) after the main program.
