We met gently today, August 8 (on a rescheduled Saturday); great to see you, Kim! Something that Kim and Jen are both feeling right now is the push/pull struggle around protecting our writing time. We both have optimal times of day where in theory everything should align for us to write, but have been finding that things chip away at that time. And it’s not our faults, we realized… life can be messy, stressful, chaotic, and full of distractions (good and bad)!
Our renewed goal moving forward is to do our best not to let those things chip away too much, to safeguard that time for dedication to our writing. We talked about being intentional about separating our selves from the work day (a common exercise for those of us still working jobs, and especially those of us working remotely from home), taking some time to step away and allow our brains and bodies to reset, so we aren’t unconsciously leaning too far into the muscle memory of “computer/desk = day job.”
Finding quiet and separate corners of our worlds – whether it’s another room, a patio, a garden, a coffee shop – where we can surround ourselves with things that inspire us. Building some creative foundations through music. These are wonderful ways to keep our writing at the forefront and ensure we don’t dismiss the time we want to spend with our craft.
